When is the best time for spring steelhead?
Our Steelhead start running as soon as the rivers break free of ice. However, the best times to target those fish are when water temps are on the rise. This equates to active fish ready to bite and more apt to feed. Prime dates are historically towards the middle of April to mid May.
If I want to bring my own gear what should I have?
I recommend either a 9' 8WT or 10' 7WT fly rod for steelhead. Please have reels spooled up with weight forward indicator style lines.
I will proivide all leader and tippet.
Conventional gear should consist of a 8-10 FT medium power fast action rod with a reel spooled up with 10-12 lb mono. Alot of my customers prefer high vis lines. I will provide all leader material.
How far will i have to travel?
Based out of Duluth I tentatively meet around the Duluth or two harbors area. However, becuase we have access to so many rivers we can either fish locally around Duluth or make the run up to Grand Marais. Travel time is not included in my rates so with any location you will always get a full 4 or 8 hours of fishing time. We fish where the fish are!
How should I dress?
Lake Superior can heavily influence weather conditions. Please dress adequately for the forecast but do not be afraid to pack extra layers. I also recommend a rain jacket on all days.
Sunglasses or eyewear is also recommended while fly fishing for eye protection.
I have limited mobility, can i still fish?
Yes! Because of the wide selection of water to choose from we can always find somewhere to get you comfortably on the water and fishing succesfully.
